In a special school board meeting on Sunday, Miami Trace named a Saint Mary’s, Ohio principal as the new superintendent.
David Lewis, 41, principal at Saint Mary’s High School in St. Mary’s, Ohio was named as Dan Robert’s successor and will take the reigns over as the new Miami Trace Local School District Superintendent.
Roberts, who has been employed with the district since 1983, announced earlier in the school year that he would retire as superintendent this year.
“From the time of my first interview, I knew Miami Trace was a special place,” Lewis said in an interview with Fayette Advocate on Sunday. “I’m extremely impressed with the administration and board of education.”
Lewis — who’s originally from Delaware, Ohio — has been principal at Saint Mary’s for the last two years. Previously, he was assistant principal at the school for five years.
His previous employment includes being a teacher at Marysville Middle School for five years and a job specialist at Delaware Hayes High School.
He received his bachelor’s degree from Ohio Dominican College, his master’s and principal’s certificate from Ashland University, and his Superintendent certificate from Bowling Green State University.
Nearly two dozen other applicants applied for the position but the board decided to accept Lewis’ employment by a unanimous vote.
Lewis’ first day as superintendent will be July 1, 2013.
