The Washington Court House School Board met briefly this evening to thank retirees, discuss possible implementation of alternative learning strategies, and voted unanimously to raise the cost of school lunches.

Lori Johnson, Brenda Riley, Linda Murden, Debra Fenner, Sandy Brown, and Paula Orr were six retirees recognized by Superintendent Keith Brown and the Board of Education. Each teacher provided over 30 years of service, 188 years combined.
Continuing to improve leading technology and education cooperatives The Board of Education heard a anticipative plan to initialize a 1 to 1 learning program in which each student grades 6-12 would be provided his or her own laptop to use for academic research and projects throughout the school year. According to the packet received at the meeting “the rich media experiences can convert even the most passive student into an actively engaged learner.” The 1 to 1 approach places emphasis on personalization of class learning material for each student, offers simulation capabilities for projects and activities that may otherwise be unobtainable, and shifts learning from a local approach to a global methodology.
The Board of Education voted unanimously to impose a increase in the school lunch program from the 2013-2014 year. Grades K-5 will see a $0.10 rise from $2.20 to $2.30; grades 6-12 will also increase $0.10 from $2.45 to $2.55. Lunch prices for adults will increase from $2.75 to $2.85 and an increase in adult breakfast will also be imposed, rising $0.10 from $1.10 to $1.20. The increase is a directive of the Child Nutrition Bill. Specialized lunch programs are not slated to change.
