In a time when graduating classes across the region can boast of success stories, Abbey Flory is a Success Story. Officially.

The Ohio Department of Education is recognizing her as one of sixteen graduating seniors who are Career-Technical Education Success Stories for the class of 2013.

Flory, a Live Oaks Career Campus student from Amelia, is a student in the Digital Arts and Design program. She has earned college credit and industry certification, and had her choice of attending the Savannah College of Art and Design or the Art Academy of Cincinnati.

While she has chosen to stay in the area and attend the Art Academy of Cincinnati, her work is already receiving wider attention. She was a regional finalist in the Ohio Governor’s Youth Art Exhibition, a regional Gold Key winner in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards competition, and a two-time silver medalist in the Ohio SkillsUSA state competition for Advertising Art.

She said that her best memories of Live Oaks were in the Digital Arts and Design (DAAD) lab. “It’s like having a second family who cares for me and cheers me on, no matter what,” she said. She also gives credit to DAAD instructor Adam Schlosser. “The impact he has had on me as well as all his other students has been phenomenal.”

Flory will be profiled on the Ohio Department of Education website at http://ode.ohio.gov.
