Leesburg Avenue in Washington Court House will close at the end of this month and is expected to remain closed for nearly ten months as crews make repairs and additions to the highly traveled street.

The construction project, known as “The Leesburg Avenue Project,” will widen Leesburg Avenue and U.S. 62 West from the five-way intersection near Kroger and Court Street to the Access Road on U.S. 35.

The project involves laying new sewer and sanitary lines, water lines, and new curbs and sidewalks.

When construction begins on January 29, Leesburg Avenue will completely close to motorists and a detour route will be established on Clinton Avenue.

The posted detour is U.S. 62 West to U.S. 22 West (Clinton Ave.) to the Access Road to U.S. 62 West or reverse. Local access will be maintained.

Court Street will be redcued to one lane in each direction between South Hinde Street and Highland Avenue for 10 days beginning January 28.

Also starting January 29, the Tri-County Triangle Trail bike path that goes under Court Street and along Circle Avenue will be closed for 10 days.

The five-way intersection of Highland Avenue (S.R. 41), U.S. 22, and U.S. 62 will be restricted for four days, but traffic will be maintained, according to ODOT officials.

“Since there’s going to be so much excavation, there’s going to be times where it will be four or five hours where (residents) can’t get out of their driveway,” said Washington Court House Service Director Joe Burbage. “But that’s pretty normal in a major construction like this.”

According to officials, Leesburg Avenue is expected to reopen on November 30, 2013.
