Mid-afternoon storms rolled throughout central Ohio Wednesday evening.

Much of the state sustained mild damage when heavy winds blew through but Fayette County seems to have been spared from the worst.

Strong winds gusting at over 90 miles per hour were recorded in some parts of the county but authorities say the worst they were dealing with were numerous reports of trees down across roads.

On U.S. 41 winds brought down a power pole and lines were down across the highway. A female motorist failed to see them and drove over the wires. She remained in her car trapped until emergency crews arrived on scene; she wasn’t injured.

Despite other parts of the state reporting thousands of dollars in damage, authorities locally said that Fayette County is lucky.

In Columbus several roofs reportedly collapsed, and the Ohio State Football Stadium’s scoreboard sustained damage when part of the screen fell.

The area remained under a severe weather alert for much of the evening.
