Jesse and Tiffany Guinen pose for a picture with their dog, Chuy Meatball, and Bud, the life-sized snow horse sculpted entirely out of snow.
A life-sized horse made entirely out of snow is drawing quite the crowds from near and far in Fayette County.
Situated on a front lawn on Washington New Martinsburg Road in southwest Fayette County, Bud the snow horse is becoming a local attraction that’s drawing crowds from all over.
Sculpted last week, Bud — which stands over five feet tall — is freestanding, sculpted entirely out of snow, and is the work of local resident Jesse Guinen.
“I’ve built snow sculptures before, but I haven’t been able to for the last three years because the snow hasn’t been right,” said Jesse Guinen of New Martinsburg.
Guinen started making snow sculptures several years ago and his portfolio includes a life-sized shih tzu dog (to honor the Guinen’s late dog, Puppet), Guinen’s favorite farm animal, a pig, and a six foot Hawaiian snowman.
It was only fitting to keep the tradition alive by building a farm animal when the area received a significant amount of snow fall last week, said Guinen.
If the area receives more snow, Guinen plans on making addtional snow creations, but only if the snow is just right.
“The temperature has to be just right, and we have to have two good days of pack-able snow,” he said. “If you can make a good snow ball, then the snow is perfect for sculpting.”
According to Guinen, he spent over 20 hours sculpting bud, which appeared on a local television station’s weather report two days in a row.
Community residents are encouraged to stop by the family’s New Martinsburg Home on Washington New Martinsburg Road near Miami Trace Road to see the sculpture in person.
